Recently I've been hit with decisions about my career. Due to a recent health concern (see ON THE COVER) I've had to revamp my life....A LOT! I've been a firefighter for 15 years and know nothing else. I don't sleep hard because I have to be alert on a split second. I run to fire, not away. I live on adrenaline, not panic when it happens. Now.....I can't. How does one adjust their life to what they have learned and lived with for most of their life. Most don't realize what it takes to be a firefighter, we don't either. It's natural for us. That is why we never think of how others view us. To us, we are just doing our job, but many call us "HEROES." Are we? (TALK ABOUT IT) So what does a 35 year old firefighter become once he can't do his job? That question still lingers.
